A Testament of Faith, Family, and Fierce Devotion

HAZLEHURST, MS --- For more than two decades, the story of Mississippi's popular Kowboy has been quietly unfolding in places far removed from recording studios and red carpets — inside barns, along riding paths, at kitchen tables surrounded by family, and in moments of prayer shaped by hardship and gratitude. Now, with the release of his debut Gospel Hip-Hop cd, "11:502 – THE BOOK OF KOWBOY," that story is finally being told in his own voice.

Released by BePublished.org in December 2025 after being produced by The Artist Revue, this 11-track project is written entirely by Kowboy and musically composed by Goddess Sage, whose compositions give structure and sonic depth to Kowboy’s unfiltered testimony. More than an album, "11:502 – THE BOOK OF KOWBOY" is a declaration: faith lived out loud, scars acknowledged, and praise offered freely in a world that increasingly demands silence from believers.

“This record isn’t about entertainment,” the family man shared in a quiet moment from his Hazlehurst home during the album’s completion one evening after wrapping up a job in Jackson. “It’s about obedience. I was told to speak, so I spoke.”

Life of Discipline, Instinct, and Trust

-----------

Those who know Kowboy outside of music often describe him with a sense of awe. An equestrian, animal trainer, contractor/remodeler, mechanic, horse-and-buggy racer and selective dog breeder, Kowboy has earned a reputation for working with animals others have given up on—especially horses.

“I’ve watched him rehabilitate racehorses that vets said would never run again,” said longtime associate Marcus Harlan, who has observed Kowboy’s work up close. “Not just physically, but mentally. Children trust him. Animals trust him. Race horses even are trained to dance by him. That doesn’t happen unless you’re calm, patient, and deeply intuitive.”

Another colleague, Halim Dedeaux, added, “Kowboy can train any animal to do anything—but he never breaks their spirit. He listens first. That’s rare.”

His barn in Mississippi has become a gathering place for families, children, and visitors seeking peace, connection, and education. From guided path rides to opportunities for experienced riders to explore portions of private land independently, the property reflects Kowboy’s belief that stewardship includes sharing blessings.

“You’ll see kids light up the moment they step onto the property,” said a local parent. “It’s not just riding horses — it’s learning responsibility, respect, and confidence.”

Family, Legacy, and Living the Word

-----------

At the center of Kowboy’s life is family. A father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he speaks of legacy not as something abstract, but as something built daily through presence and example.

“My children and grandchildren see how I live,” he said. “That’s my first ministry.”

This same philosophy underpins his authorship. Kowboy is the writer of two books — What The Lion Sees (2020) and Lion’s Code: 12 Rules for Living Wild and Wise (2025) — works that explore spiritual authority, self-discipline, and walking boldly with God in a compromised world whether child or adult. The themes woven through those books reappear in "11:502 – THE BOOK OF KOWBOY," reinforcing the idea that music is simply another way he teaches.

A Musician Long Before a Recording Artist

-----------

Though this CD marks Kowboy’s official debut, music has always been part of his life. Friends and collaborators attest to his deep musical knowledge.

“He can read music, play multiple instruments, and sing bass, baritone, and tenor,” said Rollins "Rollo" Rhymes, executive producer at The Artist Revue. “And then turn around and rap with authority. That range is almost unheard of.”

Yet despite his ability, Kowboy deliberately stayed behind the scenes for years — partly because of a painful experience in 2009, when a song he wrote was stolen and later performed by popular rap artists who received heavy radio play while Kowboy living in Kansas.

“The people around him at that time said they were singing along with the song on the radio because they'd heard Kowboy sing the song so much. They just didn't know he hadn't sold the song. That experience shut him down creatively for a long time,” Rollo said a close confidant of Kowboy's explained to him long ago. “He didn’t want to touch the industry again.”

It took years — and a great deal of prayer — before he felt released to try again. "11:502 – THE BOOK OF KOWBOY" represents not just a creative return, but a healed one.

“This time,” Kowboy said, “I wasn’t chasing validation. I was answering God.”

The Meaning of “11:502”

------------

The album’s title carries deep personal meaning. Styled like a scripture reference, “11:502” points to a specific moment in Kowboy’s life — a timestamp tied to incarceration, reflection, and divine clarity. It symbolizes how God met him exactly where he was and set him on a new path. He was given the poem in a dream on January 15, 2002, while incarcerated. The poem, "11:502" was first published in 2004 in Seen In Other Words by Mylia Tiye Mal Jaza -- a mini-collection of short stories and poems.

Each of the 11 songs on this debut CD functions like a chapter, addressing themes of gratitude, repentance, perseverance, worship without walls, spiritual warfare, and unwavering loyalty to God.

“These songs are for people who love God but are tired,” Kowboy explained. “People who’ve been through hell and still say ‘thank You anyway.’”

------------

Music as Ministry Beyond Church Walls

------------

What distinguishes "11:502 – THE BOOK OF KOWBOY" is its intentional audience. These songs are not only for those with church homes, but for those who may feel disconnected from traditional spaces.

“We each are the church,” Kowboy said plainly. “The body is the temple.”

That message echoes throughout the album — particularly in tracks that emphasize guarding the heart, staying in God’s presence, and standing firm amid increasing spiritual pressure. The language of warfare is not metaphorical here; it is instructional.

“In these times, God needs fierce soldiers,” he said. “Big dogs. Not violent, but disciplined. Loyal. Alert. He kingdom also needs mares, stallions, Pacers, Walkers, workhorses of all kinds able to go he distance without fainting. Buildings, groups and disappointments may have pushed certain people away, but I hope these songs will help them know The Most High has never left us, and will forgive if we repent because we are all loved unconditionally and that mean's it's never too late to return to God. However, time is of the essence because all we have promised is right now, not a second longer.”

------------

Praise Born From Gratitude, Not Comfort

------------

Despite hardship, disappointment, and betrayal, gratitude remains the album’s throughline. Kowboy is vocal about his thankfulness for every blessing he has received — especially Jesus as the Messiah.

“Nothing else matters without Him,” he said.

Listeners have already begun responding to the album’s honesty and clarity.

“This music makes you feel steady,” said Goddess Sage, the project's composer, after the YouTube playlist premier of the CD. “Each of these minister to you in some way. Overall, the project is like someone reminding you to lock on and hold tight to God when life shakes you up, but never give up on Yah.”

Another listener added, “It’s not hype faith. It’s seasoned faith.”

-----------

A Purpose-Driven Release

-----------

Kowboy is clear about why "11:502 – THE BOOK OF KOWBOY" exists: to build the Kingdom by ministering to, for, and about people who love God despite hardship.

“Life doesn’t get easier just because you believe,” he said. “But you learn to handle it with more grace.”

As the album makes its way into the world, Kowboy remains grounded — still repairing homes, training and caring for animals (horses, goats, dogs, ducks, etc.), welcoming families to his barn, writing, praying, singing, rapping, repairing vehicles and equipment, worshipping and praising.

“This CD is just one more offering,” he reflected. “And I’m thankful God trusted me with it.”

"11:502 – THE BOOK OF KOWBOY" is now available via BePublished.org for purchase and can be streamed for free from YouTube anytime.
